OpenMedia.ca's "Protect our Privacy" campaign worked with 125,000 Canadians to crowdsource a plan to repeal Bill C-51, which expanded the government's surveillance powers. The organization's ultimate goal is to make Canada a leader in digital privacy protection.
In this video, OpenMedia states that "more than 785,000 ordinary Canadians have been victims of [privacy] breaches, despite never having broken the law."
The campaign generated three key recommendations to fix privacy in Canada: mandating warrants, ending mass surveillance, and embracing accountability.
