You might not associate the Great Lakes with surfing, but as Larry Cavero of Brampton says, learning to surf the Great Lakes means “you can learn to surf anything.” This short doc by Jake Kovnat, “On Days Like These We Must Surf,” captures what it’s like catching waves on the world’s largest group of freshwater lakes.
Cavero is originally from Peru and is used to surfing on the ocean. After moving to Canada, he decided that the Great Lakes would have to do.
“The waves here on the lakes are impossible to catch,” he said in the doc, “especially if you come from the ocean.”
With a wetsuit and no lack of fearlessness, watch how Cavero does it.
