Tyee Poll: Should Canada Beef up Its Military?

Yesterday in the National Post, Matt Gurney argued that the latest crisis in the Ukraine, and the threat it poses, shows Canada's military is woefully lacking.

"Canada does not currently meet even the modest military thresholds required to provide ... domestic security," he wrote, "and on the international scene, threats materialize faster than we can muster the strength to respond to them."

He said Canada's Army is probably adequate given the lengthy war in Afghanistan but the Air Force and Navy are severely lacking, the latter force deemed so by none other than Tyee regular contributor Michael Byers.

What do you think? Does Canada need to shore up its military capacity?
