Vancouver Fringe Festival Turns Up the Music

The free Fringe Patio on Granville Island will feature all-ages live music co-presented with Coastal Jazz over the Labour Day Weekend.

The last long weekend of summer comes with free live music for all ages as part of the 2026 Vancouver Fringe Festival. The Fringe Patio kicks off Sept. 5 to 7 with a weekend of music, co-presented with Coastal Jazz, at Ocean Artworks Pavilion on Granville Island. Free to attend while capacity allows, the weekend will feature Parlour Panther, Hyaenas, Cowboy Bebop Bebop Band, Krystle Dos Santos and Alvaro Rojas 5tet.

This is the first year that the Fringe has partnered with another long-standing Vancouver arts and culture institution — Coastal Jazz — to offer live music as part of the Fringe Patio.

“We’ve offered the Fringe Patio at the open-air Ocean Artworks Pavilion on Granville Island across many festivals,” says Duncan Watts-Grant, executive director of the Vancouver Fringe Festival. “It’s become the social hub of the Fringe, and people love to experience the arts and culture that the stage offers. This year, we’re extending our Ocean Artworks events with the Fringe Patio Music Series and offering additional music programming over the Labour Day weekend. By partnering with Coastal Jazz, we can highlight local performers and bring more music to the venue and Fringers.”

Cole Schmidt, co-artistic director at Coastal Jazz, programmed the weekend of local live music and adds: “Coastal Jazz is excited to partner with the Vancouver Fringe for their 42nd annual festival. The music honours a similar framework to what the Fringe is known for: a wide range of creative lights from all corners of this city’s fantastic scene, with a mix of new music, fun tributes and exciting collaborations. This will all be taking place at everyone’s favourite outdoor venue for live music — Ocean Artworks, on Granville Island.”

The free Fringe Patio Labour Day weekend music schedule is as follows:

Saturday, Sept. 5
8 p.m.: Parlour Panther
9 p.m.: Hyaenas

Sunday, Sept. 6
4 p.m.: Cowboy Bebop Bebop Band
8 p.m.: Krystle Dos Santos

Monday, Sept. 7
4 p.m.: Alvaro Rojas 5tet

The Fringe Patio schedule continues throughout the festival, with free daily performances including DJs, storytelling, cabaret, drag, music, flamenco classes, karaoke, games, activities and more. Check the schedule at vancouverfringe.com/fringe-patio/.

The Vancouver Fringe Festival returns to Granville Island, and stages beyond, Sept. 10 to 20.

“During the 10 days of the Vancouver Fringe Festival, you’ll find entertainment for everyone. From improv and standup comedy to drag, dance and theatrical performances, from ensembles to solos, for kids to seniors, the Fringe programming has every kind of every thing,” says Watts-Grant.
