Has Meta’s News Ban Affected Your News Intake?

It’s been over a year since Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, banned news content on its platforms in Canada.

The move was a response to the Online News Act, formerly Bill C-18, requiring tech giants like Google and Meta to pay news publishers for the content shared on the platforms.

The ban’s effects are still being grappled with by both news outlets and the public. A recent report estimates that due to the ban, 11 million views per day have been lost on Facebook and Instagram.

In the face of the ban, people have found innovative ways to share content without news links. And there have been major shifts in how Canadian news outlets are connecting with their audience.

With all this in mind, we want to ask:

Has Meta’s news ban affected your news intake?
