Western Community College is giving one person and their guest the chance to experience what it feels like to be a pilot.

Western Community College 4 May 2026The Tyee

Ever wondered what it’s like to sit beside a pilot, feel the moment of takeoff and see Abbotsford from the sky?

For many, it’s a dream that never quite gets explored.

This May, Western Community College is giving one person the chance to experience it — not just as a passenger, but as someone stepping into the world of aviation.

A real aviation experience — not just a giveaway

The WCC Aviation Experience Giveaway offers one winner and their guest a 20-minute scenic flight departing from Abbotsford International Airport aboard a Cessna 172 aircraft during the month of June 2026.

This isn’t just a ride — it’s a hands-on introduction to aviation.

The selected winner will:

The experience is designed to give participants a genuine feel for what pilot training looks like in the real world.

Why this matters

Aviation is one of those career paths many people think about — but rarely act on.

Some assume it’s out of reach. Others don’t know where to begin. And many simply never get close enough to experience it.

This campaign is built to change that.

By bringing aviation closer to the community — both online and in person — Western Community College is aiming to make the journey feel more real, more accessible and more achievable.

How to enter

Participants must be at least 19 years of age at the time of entry and meet basic health and safety requirements for flight passengers. To enter the contest, participants must follow the official Western Community College Instagram account, like the pinned Instagram post about the giveaway and comment on the same pinned Instagram post by tagging at least one friend who would enjoy the experience.

One entry per participant. The prize has no cash value and is non-transferable and non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash or other alternatives. One winner will be randomly selected and notified by Instagram during the first week of June 2026. The winner must respond within 48 hours to claim their prize.

A first step into aviation

For some, this may simply be an unforgettable experience. For others, it could be the beginning of something much bigger.

Whether you’ve always dreamed of flying or are just curious about what it takes, this is a rare opportunity to get closer to aviation in a real, tangible way.
